I recently read a post from one of my favourite writers on here,
it was all about what magic means to her and as someone who definitely throws the word magic around a lot, It made me question what magic really meant and how I consciously try to find it in the ordinary, the every day mundane. As a child, magic is colour, it’s a fuzzy feeling, an excited heart, its sparklers on bonfire night, a fairytale, witches, wizards and dragons. Stories of faraway lands that spark imagination of a pure, sheltered, unsuspecting mind. As we grow and are influenced by the world around us, we are told to stop believing in the magic we once knew, the magic that was once our escape becomes grey. Then, again, we grow a little more, life shapes us into adults who naturally see only black and white, our colour vision completely faded.
We get to a point in our black and white life where we feel flat, we question our every being, we go on a road of self discovery, we order the self help books and ask the universe to guide us to where we are supposed to be, we know our lives need a shake up, we realise that time is precious and its the moments and the memories that are important. We start to see colour, the warmth of the Autumn sun against our cheek, that first sip of coffee when the air is cool and leaves crisp, the joy on our children’s faces when they wake on Christmas morning, the rich green hues of a tree lined street in a city in summer, curling up with a blanket and putting the fire on, waking up next to someone you love, having the time to read that new book you’ve been dying to get hold of, the effortless sense of belonging. All, pure, unfiltered magic that has always been there, it’s never left us, we just forgot how to find it. Magic is in the mundane, the every day, the moments that pass us by, the memories, the choices, the perspective that make us the incredible, wonderful, worthy, loveable person we are today.
Activity
Pop to your favourite stationary shop and buy yourself a new notebook. At the end of each day write down three little moments of magic from your day, nothing is too mundane, in fact, as you’ll soon realise yourself, magic is most prevalent in the ordinary.
Love this! You’re so right. There’s so much magic out there if only we look for it 🤍
Thank you so much for the lovely mention Lauren! 💫
